Understanding pelvic health

So, what actually is
pelvic health?

You may not have heard of pelvic health before, but you might recognise some of the symptoms below.

You could think of pelvic health as everything between the nipples and the knees! It includes bladder and bowel control, pelvic floor function, abdominal and core muscles, and comfort during sex.

Pregnancy, birth, menopause and surgery can all affect these areas, though symptoms can develop at other times too.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Bladder leakage, urgency or needing the toilet frequently
  • Difficulty emptying your bowels
  • Bowel leakage or difficulty controlling wind
  • Vaginal pressure, heaviness, dragging or a bulging sensation
  • Pain during sex or difficulty with cervical screening or tampons
  • Pelvic pain
  • Abdominal separation or difficulty engaging your core
  • Concerns about a caesarean, perineal or surgical scar
